Have I missed something? Have gas prices fallen dramatically in some part of the world that I don’t know about?
I took a trip to the airport this past weekend to pick up my Mother who flew into town for my son’s graduation and noticed the large SUV’s blowing by me at speeds exceeding the posted limit and wondered,
Where are these folks buying their cheap gas?
They have to be getting it at prices better than the $3.99 I am paying or they wouldn’t be wasting it by driving at those high speeds. I have never been a slow driver and I usually keep my cruise control set just above the posted limit, but these drivers were flying by me, at least 10-15 miles per hour over the posted limit. Now, I am not what can be called a stick in the mud but what I am is, is cheap. I hate wasting money and when it comes right down to it, speeding is wasting money.
I don’t see any point in complaining about gas prices. I remember back in the 1970’s when I first saw the new and improved gas pumps being installed with a decimal in place and I just could not bring myself to believe that gas would ever go above a dollar a gallon. The days of $.35 a gallon gas are long gone, never to return and I have come to terms with it. Amen, move along, nothing to see here. Can I truly blame the gas companies for charging these outrageous prices when there are so many people wasting gas on a daily basis? Not really. They are making hay while the sun shines so to speak. The 1980’s and 1990’s were great times, days of abundance and gluttony, big cars, bigger SUV’s but now we must pay the proverbial piper. Wake up folks – you can blame the big oil companies, the government, and anyone else you can think of but the truth is, the blame lies on squarely on our shoulders.
I heard a report yesterday that despite the high gas prices, gasoline use is at an all time high. Am I surprised? Shocked? No. We hate to give up doing stuff. Unfortunately, we all must pay the price for people who continue to use gasoline like it grows on trees and is pulled from a bottomless pit. I realize all I can truly control is how much I personally spend on gas and I have discovered some closely guarded secrets to getting better gas mileage and spending less on gas:
Stay off the gas,
Stay off the brake, and
SLOW DOWN!!!!
Genius, huh?
I could go on and on but I don’t have time to chat now - I’m off to check the air pressure in my tires.
